-
Do I have to apply online?
Yes. All scholarship applications are now available online only. Contact Associate Dean Julia Watson at watson.235@osu.edu, or by phone at 614-292-1882 if you have difficulties completing the online applications or if you have questions. Plan to gather all the documents and information you need for the application before you begin your online application session. These include your personal information, resumé, a prepared personal statement, the names and e-mail addresses of faculty recommenders, and the name and e-mail address of your academic advisor. Once your application is completed you cannot change it.
-
Will I be considered for a scholarship if I don't meet the stated GPA requirements?
No. You must have the required GPA at the time of your application.
-
Can I apply for multiple scholarships?
Yes. You may apply for multiple scholarships. Follow the online instructions to submit an application for each scholarship for which you are eligible.
-

I haven't been involved in Big Brother/Big Sister, but I have a strong record in community service. Am I eligible for the Lalendorf scholarship?
Although preference is given to students who have participated in the Big Brother/Big Sister program, other strong community service is considered.
-
Do letters of recommendation have to be from faculty members?
Letters of recommendation from faculty are preferred. However, recommendations from non-faculty members are accepted, provided they address relevant issues (for example, your ability to benefit from study abroad for a study abroad scholarship).
-
Can I ask the same person to submit a letter of recommendation for more than one College of Humanities Scholarship?
Yes, faculty or non-faculty recommenders can submit the same letter for multiple scholarships. Keep in mind, however, that personal statements and letters of recommendation should be as closely tailored as possible to the criteria of the scholarship for which you are applying. You should pay close attention to the criteria for each scholarship. You will notice that some scholarships have different requirements. If your statement and letters of recommendation do not coincide with the requirements, your application will not be considered.
-
I'm not sure my proposal is very strong. I'm a freshman; I'm a transfer student; my grades are good, but I have no extra-curricular activities; etc. Should I apply anyway?
Yes, by all means apply. Though the competition is admittedly stiff, your proposal may be more persuasive than you think. And it may be helpful to put your goals in writing in any case.
-
I’m a Humanities major, but how do I know which scholarships I might be eligible to receive?
Read scholarship descriptions carefully. If you meet basic requirements, such as rank and/or GPA, by all means apply. Selections are made on the basis of merit and financial need.

Scholarship cannot be awarded for the current year or retroactively.
