Program for Humanities Development
Program Overview
The Program for Humanities Development (PHD) is a two-year research and mentoring program that serves Humanities majors from historically underrepresented groups from any U.S. college or university. The PHD focuses on providing developmental programming and support for students interested in pursuing graduate study in the Humanities. At The Ohio State University, the broad umbrella of the Humanities encompasses a range of exciting areas of study including: African American and African Studies, Asian American Studies, Comparative Studies, Creative Writing, Disability Studies, East Asian Languages and Literatures, English, Film Studies, Folklore, French and Italian, Germanic Languages and Literatures, Greek and Latin, History, Latino/a Studies, Linguistics, Literacy Studies, Near Eastern Languages and Cultures, Philosophy, Sexuality Studies, Slavic and East European Languages and Literatures, Spanish and Portuguese, and Women's Studies.
The PHD offers two summers of guided coursework, research, mentoring, and cohort building. Moreover, during the academic year, PHD students will receive ongoing programmatic support at their home institutions. This unique structure provides students with the opportunity to gain foundational knowledge about graduate study in the Humanities and then build upon that foundation with discipline specific research.
The deadline for application to the Program for Humanities Development is January 30, 2008.
