First job out of college: Administrative Analyst, Columbus Recreation and Parks
Since 1992 Mr. Borin has been the Executive Director of the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium. He works with the Board and Executive Committee to establish policy and long-term plans for the Zoo. He oversees capital improvements, master planning, strategic planning, and is involved in fundraising programs to benefit the Columbus Zoo. He also makes public appearances on behalf of the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium at public meetings, hearings, and special events. As the Zoo's General Manager from 1985-1992, he supervised various departments, prepared the annual budget, negotiated labor contracts, and established operational policies and procedures. Prior to that he was Assistant Director for the Columbus Recreation & Parks Department, where he administered adult sports programs, 25 community recreation centers, senior citizen centers, aquatic centers, and the Cultural Arts Center and the Conservatory. Mr. Borin serves as a board member of the American Association of Zoos and Aquariums, The Wilds, The Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International, and International Rhino Foundation. He is also a board member and past president of the International Species Information System. In 1983-84 he completed course work in accounting at Ohio State, and in 1987 he attended the A A Z P A School for Applied Zoo and Aquarium Biology. He received his B.A. in History in 1969 and a Masters in Public Administration in 1972.
