D S A G Minutes from October 22

Tuition Set-Aside

Lewis Ulman, Director of Technology for the College of Humanities, shared an update with DSAG members.

Departments currently benefiting from the program include:

  • English-Digital Media Project
    -access to sophisticated equipment
    -add staff to help manage the project
  • History- Goldberg Program
    -add database and Web manager (graduate students)
    -eHistory company donated images
    -add Media Manager

Professor Ulman also discussed the goal of providing students with file space on the server. It is considered to be a large undertaking, since adding the students will more than double the number of current users.

Tuition set-a- side funding has provided support for graduate teaching associate facilities for developing material as well as an online writing center.

The World Media and Culture Center will house a full time Media Development staff and twelve Hagerty Hall classrooms will be outfitted with multimedia.

Professor Ulman reported that the College met several local needs with the funding, although many collaborations have yet to be implemented.

Abbey mentioned the consideration of undergraduate feedback on the funding plan.

Due to the closure of the eCafé, alternate locations for Fireside Chats were discussed. Mark suggested 311 Denney Hall and Shari mentioned 286A University Hall as possible alternates. Shari plans to inquire about the availability of both spaces.

Career Night

Students compiled a list of potential alumni participants and volunteers were chosen to place phone calls.

Other

Shari mentioned the reinstatement of the Humanities Alumni Society and asked DSAG members how they would like to align themselves with the group. Ashley mentioned the possible establishment of an online career network. Alana suggested planning events which would give DSAG members the opportunity to engage with Humanities alumni. Shari mentioned the College of Biological Sciences commencement breakfast for graduates and alumni as an example.
