Pauline Yu

Pauline Yu, President of the American Council of Learned Societies, is a former Professor of East Asian Languages and Cultures and Dean of Humanities in the College of Letters and Science at UCLA. She is the author of The Poetry of Wang Wei and The Reading of Imagery in the Chinese Poetic Tradition, the editor of Voices of the Song Lyric in China, and coeditor of Culture and State in Chinese History and Ways with Words: Writing about Reading Texts from Early China. She has also written a number of articles on classical Chinese poetry, literary theory, and comparative poetics, and has received fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, ACLS, and NEH.

A fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, Professor Yu is on the Board of Trustees of the National Humanities Center, and is a member of the Board of Overseers of Harvard University, the Board of the Teagle Foundation, the Senate of the Phi Beta Kappa Society, the Advisory Board of the Council for International Exchange of Scholars and the National Advisory Board of the Woodrow Wilson Foundation. She is also an Adjunct Senior Research Scholar and Visiting Professor in East Asian Languages and Cultures at Columbia University.
