Program:
Welcome from Ohio State University Provost Barbara R. Snyder and Dean Roberts followed by a panel discussion focusing on civil discourse and the ethics of communication. The Forum participants are Eric Alterman, Professor of English at Brooklyn College and media columnist for The Nation; Karla Holloway, the William Rand Kenan Professor of English at Duke University; and Pauline Yu, President of the American Council of Learned Societies. These distinguished speakers may consider such topics as: the politics of citizenship; public speaking in civic spaces; the moral, legal, political, and psychological stakes that the public use of language carries; and contentiousness within a politically divided country and between the U.S. and other nations.
Conversation with the audience will conclude the program, to be followed by a reception in the Sullivant Hall Rotunda.
