Each year, Ohio State's Graduate School highlights the exceptional research and teaching regularly carried out by graduate students through its annual awards reception. Only a select few among the thousands of graduate students employed are recognized. An impressive number of humanities students were among those honored in several categories at an event held May 28 at the OSU Faculty Club.

Five humanities students received the Graduate Associate Teaching Award, the university's highest recognition of exceptional teaching. They were: Anouschka Bergmann (Linguistics), Kelly Bradbury and Thomas Pruiksma (English), Christopher Bungard (Greek and Latin), and Sarah Sanderson (Spanish and Portuguese). Pruiksma was also the recipient of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi Louise B.C. Vetter Award.

Nicoleta Bazgan (French), Kelly Bradbury and Debie Thomas (English), Annett Krause (Germanic Language and Literatures), Mark Rice (History), and Diane Ruggiero and Marissa Vargas-Tokuda (Spanish and Portuguese) each were awarded Alumni Grants for Graduate Research and Scholarship to support their dissertation research or final projects.

In recognition of outstanding scholarly accomplishments and potential of graduate students entering the final phase of the dissertation research or terminal degree project, the following students received Presidential Fellowships: Rebecca Adelman and Kennedy Waliaula (Comparative Studies), Gunhan Borekci, Brian Feltman, Denice Fett, John Hunt, and Larry Skillin (History), Salvatore Florio (Philosophy) and Julie Green, Donald Pollock, and Michael Vandussen (English).

The College is proud to have so many outstanding graduate students among its ranks and also wishes to acknowledge the contributions of numerous faculty advisors to their success.
