Parents, alumni, faculty, staff, and friends joined the Class of 2008 for the college's 14th Annual Baccalaureate. This celebration of student and alumni achievement was held June 7 in the Hitchcock Hall Auditorium. The college was honored to have alumna Donna Alvarado (B.A. Spanish/M.A., Romance Languages and Literatures) give the Baccalaureate Address. Alvarado is president of Aguila International and chair of the Ohio Board of Regents.

Humanities Alumni Society (HUMAS) President-Elect Lisa Kolb presented the HUMAS Outstanding Student Award to Jessica Hanzlik and Seth Rokosky. Hanzlik, a double major in French and physics, was named a 2008 Rhodes Scholar. Hanzlik will be pursuing her graduate work at the University of Oxford's Department of Particle Physics. Rokosky is a double major in history and philosophy with a minor in Spanish and is the recipient of both the John Glenn Fellowship and the Mershon Undergraduate Fellowship. Rokosky will be attending law school at the University of Pennsylvania.

Kolb also presented three HUMAS Outstanding Alumni Awards of Distinction to three humanities alumni: Jerry Borin (B.A. History), executive director of the Columbus Zoo; James Cain (B.A. History), retired vice president of the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra; and Darnell Carter (M.A. History), criminal section chief prosecutor in the Clark County Prosecuting Office in Springfield, Ohio.

Graduating senior Chris Mazon, as a member of the Rodica C. Botoman Award for Undergraduate Teaching and Mentorship Committee, had the honor of presenting the college's most prestigious teaching prize to Associate Professor of English, Steven Fink. Known for going above and beyond to help students in his classes, Fink is lauded for being approachable and an excellent listener. His classes are characterized as inspiring, challenging, and dynamic.
Over 600 people were in attendance at this special event which took place the day before the university's Spring Commencement. Warmest congratulations to our graduates, the newest members of the Humanities Alumni Society.
