Humanities Student Spotlight:
Humanities Scholars is a four-year co-curricular program and one of the 12 Scholars Programs on campus. Humanities Scholars live in Haverfield House during their first year and, together, take English 110 and the Humanities Survey in autumn quarter. Scholars participate in community service activities and co-curricular programs, including cultural trips to major U.S. cities and locations in Ohio. First-year students are also matched up with peer mentors, upper-class students in the program who help guide them through their first year at Ohio State.
Many of the second-, third-, and fourth-year Humanities Scholars are active in the program’s leadership council, planning, promoting, and organizing various activities for the entire group. With new coordinator Emily Morris on board to help guide the students, and an active group of students continuing their involvement, the Humanities Scholars program is on track to have its most successful academic year to date.
The Humanities Scholars Program also provides students with opportunities to interact with Humanities faculty outside of the classroom. If you are a College of Humanities faculty or staff member with an interest in partnering with the Scholars to speak on your area of the humanities, chaperone a trip to a cultural destination in the U.S., or get to know students better who share an interest in your discipline, please contact Emily Morris at morris.469@osu.edu.
