Humanities Staff Spotlight:
Richard "Dickie" Selfe joins the College as a senior instructional technology designer with Humanities Information Systems and an adjunct assistant professor of English. He received his Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Technical Communication from Michigan Technological University in 1997. For the past 15 years, Selfe has directed the Center for Computer-Assisted Language Instruction in Michigan Tech's Humanities Department and, for the last seven years, was director of computer-based instruction. In addition to his administrative responsibilities, he regularly taught computer-intensive first-year English, English Education, technical communication, and graduate technology studies courses. His interests include communication pedagogy, multi-modal composition (integrating writing with other media, such as images, sound, and video), and the social/institutional influences of electronic media on our culture and pedagogy. An active scholar, Selfe recently published Sustainable Computer Environments: Cultures of Support in English Studies and Language Arts (Hampton Press, 2005). At Ohio State, he will help departments and centers in the College of Humanities incorporate instructional technology and technology studies into their curricula and programs. He will also teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the Department of English.
