Margo Wolanin Humanities Staff Spotlight:

Humanities Taps the Talents of Two New Staffers

Margo Wolanin has joined the College of Humanities as the director of development. In this role, she will plan, direct, and implement a comprehensive major gift and personal solicitation program for the Colleges of the Arts and Sciences, with a particular focus on the College of Humanities, and will work in partnership with other directors of development within the Colleges of the Arts and Sciences. Wolanin’s prior experience includes 17 years at United Parcel Service, where she held positions in human resources, training and professional leadership development, and project development. She brings a fine track record of contributions to operations, sales, profits, and growth. Wolanin is also respected for her relationship building and client development and retention skills. She graduated from OSU in 1992 with a B.S. in Education. She received her M.B.A. from Ohio Dominican University in 2004. Wolanin says she is eager to develop and nurture relationships with donors and alumni. She also looks forward to providing stewardship for established endowments, preparing fund-raising plans, and creating strategies and timetables for special fund-raising projects for the College of Humanities.

Richard 'dickie' selfeRichard "Dickie" Selfe joins the College as a senior instructional technology designer with Humanities Information Systems and an adjunct assistant professor of English. He received his Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Technical Communication from Michigan Technological University in 1997. For the past 15 years, Selfe has directed the Center for Computer-Assisted Language Instruction in Michigan Tech's Humanities Department and, for the last seven years, was director of computer-based instruction. In addition to his administrative responsibilities, he regularly taught computer-intensive first-year English, English Education, technical communication, and graduate technology studies courses. His interests include communication pedagogy, multi-modal composition (integrating writing with other media, such as images, sound, and video), and the social/institutional influences of electronic media on our culture and pedagogy. An active scholar, Selfe recently published Sustainable Computer Environments: Cultures of Support in English Studies and Language Arts (Hampton Press, 2005). At Ohio State, he will help departments and centers in the College of Humanities incorporate instructional technology and technology studies into their curricula and programs. He will also teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the Department of English.
