Humanities Alumni Spotlight:

Arts and Sciences Tailgate Party Bigger than Ever!

Chan Park-Miller at her drum. Nearly 800 arts and sciences alumni from Ohio and other parts of the country descended upon University Hall to celebrate the 2nd Annual Arts & Sciences Alumni Tailgate Party on September 17. Name tags color-coded by college (Arts, Biological Sciences, Humanities, Mathematical and Physical Sciences, and Social and Behavioral Sciences) helped alumni identify their former classmates and make new friends.

Alumni had the opportunity to visit with deans, faculty, and staff and enjoyed entertainment provided by the Men's Alumni Glee Club, the Student Men's Glee Club, the Buckeye Brass percussion group, and, of course, the cheerleaders and Brutus. A huge auction offered a lot of entertainment as well. Offering more than 125 items and packages, the auction raised nearly $10,000 for scholarships in the five colleges.

The day was topped off by a rousing Buckeye win over the San Diego Aztecs. All in all, it was a great day to be back in Columbus-town, a great day to be a Buckeye.

Humanities Alumni Society Board Elected

The new Humanities Alumni Society. Just before the Arts and Sciences Tailgate Party started, Humanities graduates gathered to elect the following alumni to the Board of Governors of the recently revived Humanities Alumni Society (HUMAS): Alyson Beem (BA 1989, History); Peggy Dewan (BA 1975, Linguistics); Lisa DiGiacomo (BA 1988 and MA 1992, French and Italian); Diane Ernsberger (BA 1994, English); Rick Franks (BA 1977, History); Todd Hills (BA 1991, History); Jean Lindley (BA 1970, History); Jennifer McNally (BA 1992, English); Maureen Severns (MA 1974, Slavic and East European Languages and Literatures); Shane Shope (BA 1989, History); and Jami Brunk Young (BA 1993, English).

Next, the board will elect its officers and develop committees. If you are interested in becoming involved with an enthusiastic group of Humanities alumni and the College of Humanities, please contact Shari Lorbach, coordinator of alumni relations, (614) 688-4532 or lorbach.1@osu.edu. The purpose of HUMAS is to provide fellowship and the furtherance of professional relationships among the alumni, students, faculty, staff, and friends of the college. We have fun too!
