Typography Styles

When using Minion and Univers type families in College of Humanities print material and advertising, it is important to maintain certain design styles. Adhering to these styles will give a consistent and unified appearance to all the materials produced by the College.

Style 1 | Headlines

Subheads and Body Copy As a general rule the Univers 67 Condensed Bold font is more appropriate for Headlines, Subheads, Titles and Callouts. The Minion Regular font is more appropriate for body copy and reading text. Subhead size should be set in a ratio of 1/1 to related body copy size. Copy leading should ideally be set at a ratio of 1/1.4 compared to copy size for optimal readability.

Style 2 | Paragraphs

Paragraphs should be set flush left without an indented first line. Avoid hyphenation if possible.

Style 3 | Emphasis

When emphasizing or highlighting copy avoid using an underline or ALL CAPS. If you are using a Regular type weight, highlight with a Bold weight. A subtle color change can also be used to emphasize copy. Underlined copy should only be used for hypertext and Web site links.
